The government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safe return of the Bangladesh National Football Team from Nepal, where political unrest has disrupted normal operations including air travel.
The team was due to fly out from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport at 3:00 pm local time on Tuesday. However, all flights were suspended by airport authorities after the situation worsened, delaying their return.
Players and officials are currently staying at their hotel in Kathmandu.
According to a press release issued Thursday night by the Chief Adviser’s Office, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is closely monitoring the situation.
Senior officials of the Chief Adviser’s Office and the Ministry are working in coordination with the Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal to ensure the team’s safety and early repatriation.
In view of Nepal’s recent political developments, including the resignation of the Prime Minister, the Bangladesh government has been in close contact with the Nepal Army to facilitate the team’s return.
Meanwhile, the Youth and Sports Adviser has personally spoken over phone with team captain Jamal Bhuiyan and team manager Amer Khan, assuring them that every possible measure is being taken to bring them back home at the earliest.
