Abul Quader, vice-president candidate from the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Union panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) polls, has alleged that the university’s vice-chancellor and proctor are directly tied to Jamaat-e-Islami politics and are using the election as a “power-sharing scheme” under the guise of democracy.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday night, Quader vented frustration over what he described as blatant bias in favor of Jamaat-backed Shibir and BNP’s student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

“This election has been reduced to a power deal between Shibir and Chhatra Dal,” Quader said.

“Inside polling centers, Shibir is manipulating votes, while outside, Chhatra Dal is marching in showdowns. The VC and proctor are implementing Jamaat’s agenda through this so-called election. I can provide proof of their direct involvement.”

Quader accused the election commission of being “incompetent and toothless,” claiming it failed to act on repeated complaints of irregularities.

“We warned earlier that this commission was unfit to conduct a fair election, and today’s fiasco proves it,” he added.

He further alleged that ballot papers had already been pre-marked in favor of Shibir-backed candidates.

“When I reported it to the chief returning officer, he simply said the ballot was replaced. What could be a more absurd solution than that?” Quader asked.

Calling the entire election process a “mockery,” Quader said his panel received no assistance from the election authorities and that their grievances were ignored at every stage.
