Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday extended advance greetings to the Hindu community ahead of Durga Puja, saying no government has the right to deny citizens their fundamental constitutional rights.

“We – the entire nation – are a broader family. The government is committed to ensuring equal rights and dignity for all citizens,” he said while visiting Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital to witness preparations for the festival.

Prof Yunus, who is scheduled to leave Dhaka for New York on September 22 to attend the UN General Assembly, said the visit gave him peace of mind as he will not be in the country during the celebrations.

“Now I can head towards the UNGA with peace in mind. We are citizens of this country, and there will be no discrimination against anyone,” he said, urging all to remain aware of their rights and dignity as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Chief Adviser also expressed optimism that Bangladesh would continue to progress through unity and harmony.
