A recent survey by research organisation ‘Innovation’ has revealed public perceptions regarding the proportional representation (PR) system and the upcoming national election.
The survey, which included 10,413 respondents, found that 56 per cent of people are unaware of the PR system, while 21.8 per cent support it and 22.2 per cent oppose it.
The findings also indicate significant public confidence in the government’s election management.
According to the survey, 95 per cent of respondents are willing to vote, suggesting that the forthcoming election is likely to be inclusive and credible. Additionally, 69.9 per cent of respondents believe the interim government is capable of conducting a neutral election.
Religious minority communities, however, expressed comparatively lower confidence in the election process.
Commenting on the survey results at an event in Dhaka on Sunday, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, “It is better for the government to talk less on the PR issue. The PR system would be determined by political parties within the existing framework.”
