Akhtar Hossain, Secretary of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has filed a case against those who attacked him in New York.
On Thursday, Akhter Hossen lodged the complaint at the Port Authority Police Department station near the airport. According to the New York Times, the filing took place at 1:00 am New York time, which corresponds to 11:00 am Bangladesh time.
The case names two individuals specifically and lists 15 to 20 others as unidentified.
Hossen stated that even after the incident, the attackers continued to harass him in the airport lobby and other areas in various ways, prompting him to take legal action.
Akhter Hossen is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on 30 September.
Earlier, on Monday, 22 September, in a video message from New York, Hossen said he was unafraid of bullets or violence from Sheikh Hasina, adding that “broken eggs mean nothing to me.”
The incident occurred when a flight carrying the Chief Adviser and his accompanying delegation of the NCP, operated by Emirates, arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York in the afternoon.
Upon leaving the airport slightly delayed, a group of Awami League supporters began chanting slogans around BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP’s acting Chairman’s foreign affairs advisor Humayun Kabir, NCP Secretary Akhter Hossen, and NCP Senior Joint Secretary Dr. Tasneem Zara.
During the commotion, some Awami League and Jubo League members threw eggs at Akhter Hossen. With the assistance of local police, the delegation eventually left the airport area by car.
