New York, Sept 24 – Against the glittering backdrop of world leaders gathered in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus found himself at the centre of warm diplomatic exchanges on Tuesday evening.
Invited to a high-profile reception hosted by US President Donald Trump, Prof Yunus used the occasion to personally extend an invitation for President Trump to visit Bangladesh “at a convenient time.”
The brief but cordial encounter reflected a moment of goodwill as the Nobel laureate greeted the American leader amid a hall filled with heads of state and dignitaries.
During the evening, Prof Yunus mingled with an impressive array of global figures. Among them were King Felipe VI of Spain, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
Each exchange added to the atmosphere of diplomatic camaraderie that defined the event.
The Chief Adviser also held conversations with senior US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor.
According to his Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, the meetings underscored Prof Yunus’s efforts to deepen Bangladesh’s ties with Washington while maintaining Bangladesh’s growing visibility on the world stage.
For Prof Yunus, the evening was more than just a formal reception—it was an opportunity to place Bangladesh firmly within the global conversation.
