BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that investors are waiting for the upcoming election for investment.
Speaking after a meeting between BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and business leaders on Sunday evening, Khosru emphasised the need for collective efforts to safeguard the economy.
He stressed the importance of protecting future economic prospects and investment opportunities, adding that the graduation of Bangladesh from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status should be postponed.
Khosru also suggested that the government write to the United Nations to monitor this matter.
During the meeting, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu said the LDC graduation is not a feasible option right now and should be delayed by at least three years, as Bangladesh is not yet prepared for it.
He also warned that if provisions allow a trade union to be formed with just 20 worker applications, the unions could be misused.
The meeting included discussions on these issues, according to the BGMEA president. Eleven top business leaders attended the gathering.
Earlier in the day, BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, met business leaders at the chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka, where they discussed political instability and the economic situation in detail.
