Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday addressed a high-level meeting at Conference Room 4 of the United Nations Headquarters on the existential threats posed by sea-level rise.
The meeting, titled “High-level Meeting to Address the Existential Threats Posed by Sea-Level Rise,” was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the multidimensional and existential threats posed by rising sea levels to climate-vulnerable countries, including coastal and island states.
He underscored the need for coordinated international efforts to address the impacts of climate change, with particular emphasis on equitable financing, strengthening adaptation capacity and ensuring effective international cooperation for countries affected by climate change.
Heads of government and state, along with representatives of relevant international organisations, attended the high-level meeting.
