LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the active cooperation of doctors is essential to building a stronger and more people-oriented healthcare system.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest while addressing the First Health Cadre Day 2026 programme, organized by the BCS Health Cadre Association at a city hotel.
Fakhrul said the number of doctors in the country remains inadequate compared to the size of the population.
In addition, shortages of personnel and infrastructure at government hospitals have made it difficult to ensure the desired standard of healthcare services, he said.
Therefore, he stressed that the government and medical professionals must work together to make the health sector more effective.
The minister said the government aims to eliminate the irregularities that have long plagued the health sector and establish a modern, people-friendly healthcare system.
To achieve this goal, he urged doctors serving at the upazila and district levels to remain at their assigned workplaces and provide responsible and dedicated healthcare services to the public.
Emphasizing the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for doctors, Fakhrul said that the government would give due consideration to the legitimate demands of medical professionals.
He also assured them of his continued support in advancing the health sector and addressing the challenges faced by doctors.
