Thirteen leaders and activists of the now-banned Awami League, including two former Members of Parliament, have been arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
According to sources at the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the arrests were made in raids conducted across different parts of the capital over the past 24 hours, including last night.
The detained former lawmakers are Fazur Rahman Badal, former MP from Brahmanbaria-5 constituency, and Tamanna Nusrat Bubly, a former reserved seat MP (324).
Confirming the development, Mohammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, said the arrests were made on the basis of specific allegations and intelligence findings.
He added that legal proceedings against the 13 detainees are currently underway.
