A tragic incident unfolded in Kaliganj upazila, Lalmonirhat, on Sunday morning when two brothers lost their lives while trying to save their sibling from an electric shock.
The unfortunate event took place in Bakalitari village of Chawlbola Union, leaving the community in deep sorrow. Two others were injured in the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Nur Islam, 55, son of Elahi Baks, and Delwar Hossain, 43.
The injured, who are receiving treatment at hospital, are their younger brother Yasin Ali, 38, and their uncle Sirajul Islam.
Local residents said Nur Islam suffered an electric shock while attempting to connect a water pump near his house.
On hearing the cries for help, his brother Delwar Hossain rushed to save him but was also caught in the fatal current. In a desperate attempt to rescue the two, Yasin Ali and their uncle Sirajul Islam were electrocuted.
The four were later rescued by locals and rushed to Aditmari Upazila Health Complex.
However, doctors declared Nur Islam and Delwar Hossain dead on arrival, while the other two were admitted for treatment.
Omor Faruk, Deputy Assistant Medical Officer of the emergency department at Aditmari Upazila Health Complex, said, “Of the four electrocuted, two died before they could reach the hospital. The other two are under medical care.”
The incident has left the Bakalitari village shaken, with the heartbreaking loss of two lives in an attempt to save a loved one serving as a grim reminder of the dangers of electricity.
