Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday said the country could witness a 25 per cent transformation within a year if corruption and extortion are stopped, claiming that complete change is possible within five years.

He made the remarks while addressing voters during a door-to-door campaign in his constituency, Dhaka-15.

Earlier in the day, Dr Shafiqur Rahman concluded an electoral rally in Sherpur-Jamalpur and later joined campaign activities in Dhaka in the afternoon.

He visited Mirpur-13 area, walking through neighbourhoods and interacting with shopkeepers, residents and working people. During the campaign, he sought votes in favour of the party’s election symbol, the scale.

Following the campaign, the Jamaat Ameer addressed a brief roadside gathering where he reiterated his party’s commitments if elected to power.

He said Jamaat-e-Islami would ensure a safe and dignified environment for women, pledging to guarantee security and respect for women in workplaces across the country.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman also said his party is committed to building a corruption-free Bangladesh. “If corruption and extortion are eliminated, the country will change by 25 per cent within one year, and by 100 per cent in five years,” he said.

Addressing youth issues, he alleged that the younger generation is being systematically destroyed through drug abuse. “We will turn the youth into a source of strength for the nation,” he added.
