The body of a teenage boy who had been missing for four days was recovered on Sunday night from a generator room of a business establishment in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
The deceased was identified as Bijoy (17), a cleaner employed at IDC Limited, located on the third floor of the same building, according to family members and police.
Bijoy’s sister Ruma Khatun said her brother had been missing since Thursday afternoon. The family later filed a general diary (GD) with Banani Police Station over his disappearance.
She alleged that they had taken a suspect named Raju to Banani police, a claim she said was supported by mobile phone video footage. However, after questioning, police released Raju.
An official of IDC Limited said that from Saturday morning both Bijoy and Raju were untraceable. Later that afternoon, Raju reportedly informed the office that he had an altercation with Bijoy over a financial dispute.
According to police, Shilpaanchal Police Station traced the missing boy on Sunday evening, learning that he had been confined inside the generator room of the IDC Limited building. Police broke open the lock at night and recovered Bijoy’s body from the room.
Police suspect that Bijoy was murdered on Thursday. Preparations are underway to file a case and arrest those involved, said the police official.
