A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the eligibility of BNP-nominated candidate Dr MA Qaiyum in the Dhaka-11 constituency over allegations of dual citizenship and concealment of information.

The writ seeks a stay on Dr Qaiyum’s candidacy.

The petition was filed on Monday by Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance in Dhaka-11.

Advocates Jahirul Islam Musa and Ali Azgar Sharifi filed the writ on behalf of Nahid Islam.

Advocate Jahirul Islam Musa said the High Court is likely to hear the petition within this week.

Earlier, the Election Commission declared the nomination papers of both Nahid Islam and Dr MA Qaiyum valid for the Dhaka-11 seat.
