Amid concerns over possible infiltration and violence ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken a tough stance along the border areas of Lalmonirhat district.

According to BGB, heightened security measures have been put in place to prevent illegal infiltration, cross-border crimes and any form of violence during the election period.

As part of the efforts, BGB has also launched public awareness activities in border-adjacent areas.

In a press release sent to the media, the Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB) said special patrols, strict surveillance and enhanced intelligence operations are being conducted across the border areas.

Additional vigilance has been imposed in vulnerable and unguarded stretches of the border.

The release noted that with the election approaching, there is a risk that unscrupulous groups, terrorists and drug traffickers may attempt to use border routes for smuggling narcotics or illegal infiltration.

To counter this, BGB has strengthened security across all border points under its jurisdiction.

Under the responsibility of Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB), regular patrols, special patrols and coordinated patrols involving multiple Border Out Posts (BOPs), known as ‘Hulia patrols’, are being carried out at all sensitive points, including the border areas of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district.

Temporary checkposts have been set up at important border points, where BGB personnel are conducting rigorous checking operations.

All vehicles moving through the border areas are being searched as part of the intensified security measures.

Alongside these operations, BOPs are organising public awareness meetings with local residents to discourage any criminal activities ahead of the election.

Community leaders, public representatives and people from all walks of life are being informed and urged to provide information and assist BGB in preventing crimes.

Regular instructions are also being issued to raise awareness against all forms of cross-border offences.

Local border residents said BGB has significantly increased patrols and established temporary camps along the border.

Commanding Officer of Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Selim Al Din, said BGB remains vigilant and fully prepared to prevent illegal infiltration and drug trafficking.

“Intelligence surveillance and patrol activities have been intensified in sensitive border areas,” he said.
