The state has filed a petition seeking a stay on the High Court’s order granting bail to former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in five cases, including the murder of garment worker Minarul during the anti-discrimination movement.
The petition was submitted to the relevant branch of the Appellate Division’s Chamber Judge Court on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, the High Court granted Ivy bail in the five cases, including the Minarul murder case. A bench comprising Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Saghir Hossain passed the order, declaring the rule issued in this regard as disposed of. Barrister Sara Hossain represented Ivy before the court.
On May 9, Ivy was arrested from her residence “Chunka Kutir” in Deovog area of Narayanganj city. She was sent to jail after being produced before the court in connection with a murder case.
Later, on May 27, following a two-day remand in the Minarul murder case, the court again ordered her to be sent to jail.
