Nepal Election Commissioner Dr Rajib Subba has said Bangladesh's innovative 'IT-supported Postal Voting System' is being considered a promising model for future elections.

He made the remarks today after concluding a two-day experience-sharing programme with the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) on the IT-supported postal ballot voting system.

Dr Subba said Bangladesh's system for 'out-of-country voting' had deeply inspired Nepal.

"The Bangladesh Model appears acceptable and credible to the government and is being considered a promising method for future elections," he said.

He said it was the first such system successfully implemented by an election commission in the Global South. Representatives from different countries, including South Asian nations, are visiting Bangladesh to learn from its experience in organising elections, he added.

"We look forward to further discussions and future cooperation. At present, we are at the research stage on this issue," he said.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said Nepal has a large number of expatriates and is interested in introducing postal voting for them.

"We introduced voting for expatriates for the first time in the 13th National Parliament election. They also want to introduce this system for their expatriate voters," he said.

He said operational, technical and other aspects of the system were discussed during the two-day programme.

"I hope they are satisfied," he added.

Senior EC officials and a six-member Nepalese delegation, including Election Commissioners Dr Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Dr Rajib Subba, attended the meeting.
