Information and Broadcasting Minister Andalib Rahman Partha has said the government has no intention of creating obstacles to cultural events in the country.
The minister and the adviser made the remarks at a regular press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday to brief journalists on the government’s recent activities.
Asked about the cancellation of concerts at some places, Partha said cancellation of a concert did not necessarily mean that the government had failed to cooperate, as there could have been security concerns.
“There are many concerts being held in Bangladesh. Big concerts are also taking place,” he said.
The minister said, “There is no such mindset on our part that anything related to culture should face obstacles. We do not share such thinking.”
Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman said there had been a “dramatic” improvement in the situation compared with the period of the interim government, although he acknowledged that isolated incidents still occur.
He, however, acknowledged that there had been one or two incidents.
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury, Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana and Principal Information Officer of the Press Information Department Syed Abdal Ahmed were present at the press conference.
