Iran International Editorial Board has said that further, detailed documentation is required to establish an accurate account of those killed in the recent unrest, alleging that security institutions have systematically withheld information and avoided recording or announcing verified casualty figures.
In a statement cited by CBS News, the outlet said experience from recent years shows a consistent pattern of concealing the true scale of deaths, prompting its commitment to refine the figures through public cooperation.
Iran International said it will work with its audience by collecting documentation, cross-checking accounts and continuously verifying information to ensure that no victim remains unidentified and no family is left unheard.
The statement also highlighted a sweeping communications and media blackout inside Iran, with hundreds of national and local newspapers shutting down since Thursday — an unprecedented development in the country’s press history.
At present, it said, apart from the state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), only a handful of news websites remain operational inside the country, all functioning under censorship and direct control of security institutions.
“This is not crisis control; it is an admission of fear that the truth will be exposed,” the statement said.
Calling for evidence, Iran International urged Iranians at home and abroad to submit documents, videos, photographs, audio testimonies and other verifiable information related to those killed, medical facilities, locations of clashes, and the time and place of incidents in recent days.
It assured that the safety of sources and the confidentiality of information would be treated as an absolute priority.
The outlet said that after careful verification and assessment, its findings would be published and shared with relevant international bodies and institutions.
“The Islamic Republic cannot conceal this crime by cutting the people of Iran off from the world,” the statement said, adding that the truth would be documented, the names of the dead preserved, and the killings would not be buried in silence.
According to Iran International, those killed belong not only to their grieving families but also to what it described as the national revolution of Iranians.
