Israel’s military on Saturday launched fresh airstrikes against Hamas militants in Gaza, marking the latest test of the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, as the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said five senior Hamas members were killed.
Health officials in Gaza reported at least 24 people killed and 54 others wounded, including children, in the attacks.
The strikes took place at a time when international engagement over Gaza’s future is intensifying. On Monday, the UN Security Council approved a U.S.-backed blueprint outlining a framework to secure and administer the territory.
The plan authorises an international stabilisation force to ensure security on the ground, establishes a transitional authority to be overseen by U.S. President Donald Trump, and lays out a potential pathway toward an independent Palestinian state.
Israel has launched similar waves of airstrikes in recent weeks following reported attacks on its forces during the ceasefire period. On Wednesday and Thursday, at least 33 Palestinians were killed over a 12-hour stretch—most of them women and children, according to health officials.
