Bangladesh has embarked on a ‘new beginning’, said Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, as he described the signing of the historic July National Charter as the birth of a new Bangladesh.
Speaking at the South Plaza of the National Parliament after signing the charter on Friday, Dr Yunus said, “Our rebirth is today. Through this signing, we have initiated a new Bangladesh. We have reached a consensus and seek Allah’s blessings to remain steadfast on the right path.”
He expressed firm confidence that the charter would transform the country and attract global attention. Dr Yunus also thanked the political parties for their support in making the charter a reality.
Highlighting the responsibilities of the government, the Chief Adviser noted that the task of nation-building would fall to the upcoming administration and that the July Charter serves as preparation for this.
Dr Yunus praised the role of the younger generation in bringing about the change. “The youth who made this day possible and those who sacrificed for this transformation will rebuild Bangladesh and provide leadership. This country belongs to the youth,” he said.
He also identified the demographic profile of the country as a national asset, pointing out that nearly half of Bangladesh’s 180 million people are under 27. “This is our wealth. The world is watching with amazement, wondering when we will send our young talent to assist globally, because youth are scarce everywhere else,” he said.
The Chief Adviser expressed hope that the consensus would be implemented smoothly and would pave the way for progress.
He added that the new roadmap created by the charter would guide Bangladesh towards a bright future.
The historic July National Charter 2025 was finalised after eight months of dialogue and consensus-building. Representatives from various political parties, along with Dr Yunus, signed the charter, marking the culmination of the process.
