Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka for Bogura by road early Monday on his first visit to his hometown after assuming office.

He started the journey at 6:10am from his Gulshan Avenue residence accompanied by his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, said his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.

He said the Prime Minister is travelling by bus with his entourage.

The additional press secretary said Tarique is set to have a busy day in Bogura with several programmes including distribution of family cards, inauguration of a measles vaccination campaign, and addressing a public rally.

He is also scheduled to visit his ancestral home there.

After completing the programmes, he is expected to return to Dhaka by road at night.

This is his first visit to Bogura since taking charge as Prime Minister on February 17.

According to the tour schedule, the Prime Minister will unveil the plaque of the newly constructed Bogura District Bar Association building at 11:00am.

At around 11:15am, he will inaugurate the e-bail bond system at the district court followed by the unveiling of a plaque at the Bogura municipal building at 11:30am.

At about 12:45pm, he will inaugurate an emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign at Ziaur Rahman Gram Hospital in Gabtoli’s Bagbari area.

He is scheduled to distribute family cards at Shaheed Zia Degree College ground at 1:00pm and later inaugurate the excavation of the Chowkidah Canal in Nasipur.

He will then visit his ancestral home in Bagbari.

In the afternoon, at 4:00pm, the prime minister will address a public rally organised by the district BNP at Altafunnessa Playground as the chief guest.

After the rally, he will also inaugurate the new building of Bogura Press Club and reconstruction work of Baitur Rahman Central Mosque.
