The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has emerged victorious with an overwhelming mandate in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, winning more than 200 seats—well above the 151-seat threshold required to form a government.

According to unofficial results, the BNP secured victory in 212 of the 292 constituencies where results have been declared so far. Meanwhile, the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance won 74 seats.

The sweeping victory paves the way for the BNP’s return to state power after nearly two decades. The party last formed the government in 2001 and is now set to assume office again following the 2025 mass uprising that reshaped the country’s political landscape.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in from home and abroad following the BNP’s decisive win, particularly for its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. The historic mandate comes just three months after his return to Bangladesh, ending a 17-year period of exile.

Political analysts say the results mark a turning point in Bangladesh’s politics, signalling the beginning of a new chapter under a BNP-led government.
