Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate and former Attorney General Advocate Md Asaduzzaman secured a landslide victory in the Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election, according to unofficial results.
Asaduzzaman, contesting with the BNP’s election symbol Dhaner Sish, won the seat by securing 171,598 votes.
His nearest rival, Motiur Rahman of the Daripalla symbol, garnered 55,577 votes.
Earlier in the morning, Asaduzzaman cast his vote at the Baripara Government Primary School polling centre.
Speaking to reporters after voting, he said the election atmosphere was markedly different this time, as candidates were able to campaign freely and voters could cast their ballots without fear or hesitation.
“This time, voting did not take place at night. Dead people did not rise from graves to cast votes,” he remarked, expressing satisfaction over what he described as a transparent and fair polling process.
