Dhaka, Friday: Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki on Friday said all those involved in the attack and looting at the Chhayanaut building would be identified through CCTV footage and brought under the law.
Farooki made the remarks after visiting the Chhayanaut building at Shankar in Dhanmondi, where he inspected the damaged areas and held discussions with Chhayanaut organiser Partha Tanvir Naved and other officials.
Speaking to journalists after the visit, the adviser said law enforcement agencies are reviewing CCTV footage to identify every individual involved in the attack.
“The building was attacked and significant damage was caused. I have assured the Chhayanaut authorities that the government will extend all necessary support, including financial assistance, so that repair and renovation work can be completed quickly and the institution can resume its activities,” he said.
He added that members of the Chhayanaut executive committee would assess the losses and inform the government after internal consultations.
Farooki also said maximum security measures have been taken for the building.
“Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police have been deployed outside Chhayanaut under strict security. I have discussed the matter with other members of the advisory council as well,” he said.
Replying to a question, the cultural adviser described the incident as a conspiracy to sabotage the election.
“Today, our focus should have been on martyr Osman Hadi. It was supposed to be a day of mourning. Who diverted the narrative? Who attacked Prothom Alo, The Daily Star and Chhayanaut? Those responsible do not want a democratic transition in Bangladesh,” he said.
He further said that at a moment of national mourning, a section of reckless elements attacked the cultural organisation Chhayanaut with the intention of destabilising the country.
“An attack on a cultural institution following the death of Hadi is not only a criminal offence, it also goes against the spirit of the July mass uprising,” Farooki added.
