Dhaka-8 nomination aspirant and Inqilab Manch General Secretary Osman Hadi, who was shot in the head during election campaigning, has only a “slim chance” of survival, according to doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
DMCH Residential Surgeon Dr Mostak Ahmed said on Friday that the bullet lodged inside Hadi’s head has not yet been removed and his condition remains critical.
Another DMCH physician, Dr Sabbir Hossain Sagar, said Hadi is now in a state that can be described as “brain dead”.
“He is in a deep coma, from which the chances of returning are extremely slim,” he added.
Hadi was shot on Friday after Juma prayers while campaigning on Box Culvert Road in the capital’s Bijaynagar area. Two assailants on a motorcycle fired a single round under his left ear before fleeing the scene.
Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has directed law enforcement agencies to bring those responsible for the attack to justice without delay.
