Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep concern over the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, who was seriously injured after assailants opened fire on him in the capital’s Bijoynagar area.

He said such violent attacks amid the election atmosphere are completely unacceptable and deeply regrettable for the country’s peaceful political environment.

The chief adviser directed the authorities concerned to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured Hadi and instructed the Health Ministry to closely monitor his medical care.

He also issued strict orders to law enforcement agencies to carry out a swift investigation and identify all those involved in the attack.

Yunus asked investigators to immediately collect evidence from the scene, gather eyewitness accounts, review CCTV footage, and determine whether the assault was part of an organized plan.

“No act of violence aimed at disrupting the election will be tolerated,” he said, adding that ensuring public safety and unhindered movement of candidates is the government’s responsibility. “Whoever is responsible will be brought under the law.”

The chief adviser called on all political groups, activists, supporters and citizens to maintain peace and restraint so the upcoming election can be held in a calm, participatory and secure environment.
