BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia remains in a critical condition under intensive care, her son and the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said on Saturday.

In a verified Facebook post, Tarique expressed deep concern over his mother’s deteriorating health and acknowledged his strong desire to be by her side during this crisis. However, he noted that returning to Bangladesh is not solely his decision to make.

“At such a critical moment, like any son, I have an intense longing to feel my mother’s affectionate touch,” he wrote. “But the scope to make an independent decision in this matter is neither unlimited nor fully within my control.”

Tarique added that the situation is too sensitive to elaborate on publicly, but the family remains hopeful that once the prevailing political realities shift to a favourable stage, his long-awaited return home will finally be possible.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Zia family, he thanked everyone for their prayers and affection for Khaleda Zia. He also urged all to continue praying for her speedy recovery.
