A court in Dhaka on Thursday sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to a total of 21 years in prison in three separate corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over irregularities in allotting a government plot under the Rajuk Purbachal Project.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of the Special Judge Court-5 delivered the verdict.

In the same cases, the court sentenced former Rajuk member Mohammad Khurshid Alam — the only accused in custody — to one year in jail, while acquitting another accused, Saiful Islam Sarkar.

According to the case statements, Wazed Miah’s plot information was allegedly concealed through a false affidavit, and the then prime minister used her authority to obtain a plot in violation of Rajuk regulations.

The ACC also alleged that financial benefits were extended to officials of Rajuk and the Housing and Public Works Ministry to secure the allotment.
