A devastating fire swept through a tin-shed colony in the Jarun area of Konabari under Gazipur Metropolitan City on Wednesday afternoon, burning down around 100 rooms.

The blaze broke out at around 5pm at the house of Rumel Pathan in the Jarun area, fire service officials and locals said.

According to witnesses, the fire originated from one of the rooms in the tin-shed colony owned by Rumel Pathan.

As the flames intensified, the fire spread rapidly to adjacent rooms. Locals initially attempted to extinguish the blaze but were unable to control it due to its severity.

Upon being alerted, two units from Konabari Modern Fire Service rushed to the scene and began firefighting efforts. Later, two additional units from Sirabo Modern Fire Service joined the operation.

House owner Rumel Pathan said all 100 rooms of the tin-shed colony were burnt to ashes, and nothing could be salvaged from any room.

Shah Alam, a garment worker, said he was informed of the fire while at work. “By the time I reached home, everything had turned to ashes. I have nothing left except the clothes I was wearing,” he said.

Md Saiful Islam, Warehouse Inspector of Konabari Modern Fire Service, confirmed the fire and the deployment of four units from the two stations. He said no casualties were reported in the incident. The fire service has yet to determine the cause of the fire or estimate the extent of the damage.
