The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has formed a special cell to counter fake information, misleading content and rumours ahead of the upcoming national election.
According to a press release signed by Muhammad Jasim Uddin, public relations officer at the Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry, the cell will work round the clock to monitor online platforms and social media, verify information and ensure factual accuracy.
The NCSA will coordinate its activities with the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office, Press Information Bangladesh (PIB), Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and law enforcement agencies.
The agency urged citizens to verify the sources of any information or content before sharing it on social media. It also requested people to immediately report any suspicious, provocative or anti-state content to the NCSA.
Emphasising that ensuring a safe cyberspace is a collective responsibility, the NCSA called on everyone to refrain from spreading or engaging with false or misleading information, photo cards or videos circulated by anti-state groups — and to raise awareness among others.
For quick assistance in preventing cybercrimes, the NCSA has a 24-hour helpline service and four separate email addresses to receive complaints from citizens.
The agency sought public cooperation to help ensure a safe and responsible digital environment for all.
