BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has said that the party has no history of conspiracy or of seizing power through the backdoor.

He made the remarks on Friday afternoon while addressing a discussion at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

A certain party does business in the name of religion and sells tickets to heaven. Now they are accusing a major political party of conspiring against democracy. In reality, it is they who are conspiring against the country’s independence and sovereignty. The independence of this nation was achieved under the leadership of BNP founder and martyred president Ziaur Rahman,” he said.

Abbas further said, “As a peaceful, decent and civilized party, BNP declared that it would cooperate with this government — and we have been doing so. But if you mistake our politeness for weakness, you are living in delusion. If BNP takes to the streets, you won’t even be found to take your medicine.”

Referring to the issue of the political certificate, the BNP leader said, “Many have been making big statements about it. We wanted to accept it, but you always find a flaw to ruin the process. Stop such misdeeds and learn from history. Don’t mislead the nation anymore.”
