Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has directed the chiefs of the three armed forces to take all necessary preparations to ensure foolproof security and maintain peace during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, scheduled for the first half of February.
The directive came during a meeting on Saturday evening at the state guesthouse Jamuna, where Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan called on the Chief Adviser.
National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman was also present at the meeting.
The Chief Adviser lauded the tireless efforts of the armed forces in maintaining law and order over the past 15 months and expressed confidence that they would continue to play a crucial role in ensuring a peaceful and secure election.
The interim government is committed to holding a free, fair, neutral, peaceful and festive election in the first half of February,” Prof Yunus said.
During the meeting, the service chiefs briefed the Chief Adviser about their preparedness for the upcoming election.
According to the plan, around 90,000 army personnel, 2,500 navy members, and a number of air force personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order during the polls. One army company will be stationed in each upazila.
The three service chiefs also invited the Chief Adviser to attend the Armed Forces Day celebrations scheduled for November 21.
