Foreign ministers of 12 countries, including Malaysia, Türkiye, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northwestern Syria, describing the attacks as a “flagrant violation” of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, the ministers said the strikes represented an “extreme escalation” and risked further destabilising the region.
The statement was endorsed by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Somalia.
They expressed deep concern over what they described as the continued targeting and degradation of Syrian territory and infrastructure, warning that such actions could undermine Syria’s efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions and address the humanitarian consequences of years of conflict.
The ministers also warned that Israel’s continued violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity could further escalate tensions, undermine regional peace and stability, and erode respect for international law and the UN Charter.
They called on the international community to adopt a firm and principled position against what they termed continued aggression against Syria and take concrete steps, in accordance with international law, to end such violations.
The ministers further called for full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they have occupied, saying such measures were necessary to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace and stability.
They reaffirmed the imperative of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and political unity, and rejected any attempt to undermine them.
