A Riyadh–Dhaka flight was forced to land in Sylhet on Saturday afternoon after a fire broke out at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
According to airport sources, the flight from Riyadh landed safely at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport following the incident.
The fire reportedly began around 2:30pm in the cargo section of Shahjalal Airport.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence control room said that 30 units of firefighters were working to bring the blaze under control, while six more units were on their way to the scene.
Mohammad Masudul Hasan Masud, spokesperson for the Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed that the fire had erupted in a part of the cargo area adjacent to the main section.
He said members of the army and air force had joined the firefighting efforts.
The affected area reportedly stores imported goods, according to airport officials.
