At least nine people were killed in a devastating fire that broke out at a printing factory and chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Rupnagar area on Tuesday, Fire Service officials have confirmed.
Fire Service Director Tajul Islam said several others suffered burn injuries in the incident, three of whom were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately, he added.
According to the Fire Service, the blaze was first reported around 11:40 am, and the first response unit reached the scene at 11:56 am. As the fire intensified, 12 units joined the operation.
Even after more than five hours, the fire was yet to be brought under control due to the presence of 10–12 types of flammable chemicals stored inside the warehouse, officials said, fearing that the death toll could rise further.
Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Prof Yunus has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the tragic deaths in the incident.
In a condolence message, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families.
The death of innocent people in this accident is profoundly tragic and heartbreaking. We stand beside the affected families in this moment of grief,” the Chief Adviser said.
He also wished a speedy recovery for the injured and directed the authorities concerned to investigate the cause of the fire and ensure necessary support for the victims and their families.
