Jahangirnagar University (JU) has once again been recognised as one of Bangladesh’s leading higher education institutions, jointly securing the top position among the country’s five universities featured in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026.

The UK-based organisation released the rankings on Thursday (9 October) in collaboration with Elsevier Journal, assessing the performance of universities across the globe.

According to the latest results, five Bangladeshi universities have been placed within the 801–1000 bracket worldwide.

Alongside Jahangirnagar University, the list includes the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh Agricultural University in Gazipur, Daffodil International University, and North South University.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are widely regarded as one of the most respected and influential global assessments of higher education. Institutions are evaluated across five key metrics — teaching, research environment, research quality, industry contribution, and international outlook.

This year’s edition features 3,118 universities worldwide, with 28 from Bangladesh making the list. Of these, 19 achieved direct rankings while nine were recognised as ‘reporters’.

Globally, the University of Oxford retained the top position, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Princeton University, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard University.

Earlier, on 23 April, Times Higher Education released the Asia University Rankings 2025, where Jahangirnagar University was placed in the 351–400 bracket among Asian universities. In that list too, JU shared the country’s top position with the same four institutions.

This repeated recognition reaffirms Jahangirnagar University’s continued excellence in research, teaching, and its growing global engagement.
