Former Chief Adviser and Nobel Peace laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has congratulated South African jurist Judge Navanethem "Navi" Pillay on winning the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a congratulatory message issued on Friday, Prof Yunus recognised Pillay's lifelong commitment to justice, human rights and accountability.

"I warmly congratulate Judge Navi Pillay on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize," he said.

Praising her long and illustrious career, Prof Yunus said Pillay had dedicated her life to the pursuit of justice.

"Her work against apartheid, at the United Nations, and on the international bench has shown that peace cannot last without the rule of law. She has held the powerful to account and stood with those who have no voice," he said.

Prof Yunus said the prestigious award recognised Pillay's exceptional courage and unwavering integrity.

"It is also a reminder that justice and peace belong together. I extend my best wishes to her," he added.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday announced Judge Navi Pillay as the winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her contributions to international law, justice and human rights.
