The government has allowed shopping malls, markets and shops across the country to remain open until 10pm till October 22 on the occasion of the upcoming Sharodiya Durga Puja.
Under the decision, the establishments can stay open from 11am to 10pm during the period.
The Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued a letter in this regard Monday, sending it to the mayors and administrators of city corporations, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
The latest move extends the opening hours by two hours. Previously, shopping malls, markets and shops were directed to remain open from 11am to 8pm.
The letter said shopping malls, markets and shops can remain open from 11am to 10pm till October 22 in view of the Durga Puja.
However, the earlier schedule will return from October 23, meaning shopping malls, markets and shops will again be allowed to stay open from 11am to 8pm from that day.
This year's Sharodiya Durga Puja festivities will begin on October 16 with Maha Shashthi and conclude on October 21 with the immersion of idols on Bijoya Dashami.
Government holidays on account of the festival will be observed from October 20 to 24.
