The officer-in-charge (OC) of Shah Ali Police Station, Jahangir Alam, has been withdrawn following an attack on and demolition of a private healthcare centre in the capital’s Mirpur area.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the withdrawal in an order issued from its headquarters on Sunday.

The order was signed by Deputy Commissioner of the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division, Shahriar Ali.

The move came two days after a group of men  attacked, looted and demolished the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1 in the early hours of Friday.

The health centre is located within about a kilometre of Shah Ali Police Station.

Police have already arrested four people in connection with the incident. The arrests were made during separate raids in Dhaka on Friday night, police said.

The Radda MCH-FP Centre has been providing healthcare services, including maternal and child healthcare, vaccination and family planning services, to low-income communities in Mirpur for decades.

The attack involved vandalism and looting, while the centre's premises were subsequently demolished. A case was filed with Shah Ali Police Station over the incident.
