Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested a meat seller with 30 kilograms of venison during a raid in the Nalian area of Dacope upazila in the Sundarban, officials said on Tuesday.
The arrested man was identified as Mehedi Hasan, 30. The seized venison is estimated to be worth around Tk 66,000.
Confirming the development, Coast Guard Headquarters Media Officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said a special team from the Coast Guard Outpost in Nalian conducted the operation around 2pm on Tuesday following a tip-off.

During the raid in the Closure Para area adjacent to Nalian under Dacope Police Station, the team caught the suspect red-handed with the illegally hunted deer meat, he said.
The detainee and the seized venison were handed over to the Nalian Forest Patrol Outpost for further legal action.
The Coast Guard official said drives against wildlife hunting and trafficking will continue as part of ongoing efforts to protect the country's wildlife and forest resources.
