A sudden spell of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning swept across the capital on Friday evening, with hail reported in some areas.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the rainfall occurred in line with its forecast issued earlier in the day.
In its outlook for the next 120 hours from 6pm Friday, the Met Office said a seasonal low-pressure system is currently positioned over the South Bay of Bengal, influencing weather conditions across the country.
Under its impact, rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may occur at a few places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions on the first day. Parts of Dhaka experienced rainfall in the evening in line with that forecast.
For Saturday, the Met Office predicts similar conditions, with rain or thundershowers likely at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Day temperatures may fall slightly while night temperatures could rise marginally.
On Sunday, rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are expected in several areas across Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Daytime temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, while nighttime temperatures could rise slightly.
The Met Office also forecast that on Monday and Tuesday, rain or thundershowers with lightning and temporary gusty winds may occur at one or two places in all divisions of the country.
