The government has appointed administrators to six city corporations across Bangladesh, including Dhaka North and Dhaka South.
The notification, signed by Joint Secretary Mahbuba Airin, was issued on Sunday by the Local Government Division’s City Corporation-1 branch, following a directive from the President.
The appointed administrators are: Md. Abdus Salam (Dhaka South City Corporation), Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan (Dhaka North City Corporation), Nazrul Islam Monju (Khulna City Corporation), Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury (Sylhet City Corporation), Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan (Narayanganj City Corporation), and Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar (Gazipur City Corporation).
According to the notification, under Section 25K, Subsection (1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, the listed individuals are appointed as full-time administrators of the respective city corporations until a new corporation is formed or until further orders are issued.
It further states that the administrators will exercise the powers and responsibilities of the mayor in accordance with Section 25K, Subsection (3) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2014, and will receive allowances as per rules.
The order, issued in the public interest, is effective immediately.
