Five people, including two fathers and their sons, were killed in a clash between two rival groups over local supremacy in Sadar upazila of Narail early Monday.

The incident took place around 5:30am in Barokula village, leaving at least six to seven others seriously injured.

The deceased were identified as Khalil Rahman and his son Tahazzud Hossain, Ferdous Hossain and his son Munna Sheikh—all belonging to the Khalil group—and Osibur Mia of the rival group led by former Singosholpur Union chairman Khayer.

According to police and local sources, supporters of former Singosholpur Union chairman Khayer and Khalil had long been at loggerheads over dominance in the area. The rivalry escalated into a bloody clash at Barokula village at dawn.

Khalil Rahman, Tahazzud Hossain, Ferdous Hossain and Munna Sheikh died on the spot after being attacked with locally made weapons.

Osibur Mia, who sustained critical injuries during the clash, was rushed to Narail District Hospital where doctors at the emergency department declared him dead.

Confirming the matter, Narail Superintendent of Police Al Mamun Sikder said additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

“Legal action is underway in connection with the incident,” he added.
