The first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad is likely to be held on March 12 or a couple of days earlier, said Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday night.

“The first session of the National Parliament will sit on March 12 next month or a day or two before that,” he said.

The minister said the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected during the maiden sitting of the new parliament.

Ordinances promulgated during the tenure of the interim government will also be placed before the House, he added.

Besides, a condolence motion is expected to be brought in the session.

In the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, Tarique Rahman, chairman of BNP, has been elected as the Leader of the House, while Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has been chosen as the Leader of the Opposition.
