The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) on Monday congratulated 10 newly elected Members of Parliament who are directly involved in the country’s housing sector, describing their election as a significant milestone for the industry.
The greetings were conveyed at a board meeting of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), where the association also congratulated all newly elected MPs in the 13th parliamentary election.
At the meeting, REHAB’s board of directors said the increased representation of the housing sector in the Jatiya Sangsad would create scope for addressing longstanding policy challenges, including tax structure reforms, urban planning, implementation of the Detailed Area Plan (DAP), utility connections and complexities in approval processes.
REHAB President Md Wahiduzzaman said the election of 10 members of the REHAB family to parliament was a matter of pride and joy for the association. “It is not only a personal achievement but also an indication of a stronger foundation being built for the country’s housing industry.”
Highlighting the sector’s contribution to the national economy, he said the housing industry plays a vital role in employment generation, expansion of the construction sector, development of related sub-sectors and revenue earnings. “With direct representation in parliament, we expect that the sector’s legitimate demands and potentials will receive due importance and practical policy support.”
The REHAB president also congratulated the new government as well as the defeated opposition, expressing hope that the newly elected MPs would contribute to strengthening the country through their experience and leadership.
However, REHAB did not disclose the names of the 10 MPs linked to the housing sector. An official of the association said they were unwilling to make their names public before taking oath.
Other vice presidents and directors of REHAB were present at the meeting. The board wished the newly elected MPs good health, long life and success in discharging their responsibilities, expressing hope for their effective role in the country’s development journey.
