Festive arches stretch across the thoroughfares, lampposts flutter with celebratory banners, and a palpable sense of jubilation grips the northern district. 

For the residents of Thakurgaon, the homecoming of the nation’s 23rd President, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is nothing short of historic.

Stepping off a state helicopter onto the turf of the local Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium at around 1:00 pm on Sunday, the newly sworn-in head of state touched down in his home district for the very first time since assuming office.

Awaiting him on the tarmac were key local administrative officials and leaders of the citizens' civic reception committee, who welcomed the President with vibrant floral bouquets. 

Following the brief reception, a motorcade whisked him away to the Circuit House, where an elite contingent accorded him a ceremonial guard of honour and a formal armed salute.

True to his roots, the President’s first private engagements bypassed state pageantry in favour of deeply personal milestones. 

After completing official formalities at the Circuit House, he proceeded directly to pay his respects at the graves of his late parents, offering heartfelt prayers for the eternal peace of their departed souls. 

He then made his way to the family residence in Tantipara.

Following a traditional midday meal and a brief respite at his ancestral home, the President is scheduled to address a grand civic reception organised by the District Citizens' Committee at the Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School grounds this afternoon.

Local law enforcement agencies have thrown a tight security blanket over the entire district to ensure a seamless visit, while the municipality wears a celebratory coat of paint and festive adornments. 

For a community that watched one of its own ascend to the country’s highest office, Sunday’s homecoming is a moment of immense pride and uncontainable local joy.
