Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber on Friday warned that whichever government comes to power after the upcoming national election would face severe agitation if it fails to ensure justice for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi.
Speaking at a press conference at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday night, Jaber made the warning while addressing the alleged police attack on the organisation’s leaders and activists earlier in the day.
“We have already lost one brother (Hadi). Even if we lose more brothers, the election must be held on the 12th—it cannot be postponed,” he said. “But if the political party that forms the government after the election does not take steps over Hadi’s killing, we will make their lives hell,” he added.
Referring to the government’s assurance, Jaber said authorities have informed them that a letter would be sent to the relevant wing of the United Nations by February 8 seeking an investigation into the killing, as demanded by Inqilab Mancha. The organisation, however, wants to see the contents of the letter before it is sent.
He urged the group’s leaders and activists to remain patient until February 8 in this regard.
The organisation reiterated that it is seeking only an independent and impartial investigation into the killing under UN supervision.
Regarding Friday’s clash with police, Jaber alleged that elements of what he termed the “fascist-era police league” were resurfacing. “When the attack on us took place, the police removed their nameplates,” he claimed, adding that there was not a single Inqilab Mancha activist who was not injured in the incident.
