A woman jumped under a moving train with her two children in Gazipur on Monday morning, killing all three on the spot.

The incident occurred around 11:00am at a railway crossing in the Nayanpara area of Ward No. 41 under Gazipur City Corporation.

The deceased woman was identified as Hafeza Khatun Mala, daughter of Mozammel Haque of South Natun Sombazar area in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur. The two children were her sons, though their identities could not be confirmed immediately.

According to local residents, Mala stood on the railway tracks near the eastern side of Pubail rail crossing in the Nayanpara Fatpat area with her two children and jumped in front of the oncoming train.

All three bodies were mutilated after being run over by the train. Police later recovered the bodies from the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pubail Police Station Atikul Islam said they had received information that a mother committed suicide by jumping under a train along with her two children.

“Police have been sent to the scene, and further details will be known after investigation,” he added.
