BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged to work towards improving the living standards of residents of Karail, stating that his party’s politics is centred on enhancing the quality of life of ordinary people.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (20 January) while addressing a doa mahfil organised by Karail residents in the capital, seeking eternal peace for the late Begum Khaleda Zia.
“I am a son of this area. You have seen how the house where I grew up after independence was demolished and reduced to rubble by an autocratic government. Today, I am your son, and I will stand beside you and the people of this area,” Tarique Rahman said.
Expressing gratitude to the residents of Karail, he said the person in whose memory the doa mahfil was organised had dedicated her life to serving the welfare of the people. “Our politics is for ordinary people. Improving their living standards is our goal and objective,” he added.
Outlining future welfare plans, the BNP chairperson said initiatives would be taken to ensure financial security for women. “We want to introduce family cards so that mothers and sisters can lead a solvent life. May Allah grant us the ability to do so,” he said, also seeking prayers for introducing other programmes similar to agricultural cards.
Tarique Rahman said the children of Karail should enjoy the same opportunities as those living in high-rise buildings. “Just as children living in buildings receive proper education, children of Karail should receive the same educational facilities. They should have access to equal healthcare services, sports facilities and all other essential amenities. If Allah wills, we will make that happen,” he said.
He also expressed his intention to develop modern housing facilities for Karail residents. “We will try to ensure modern housing arrangements and hand over flats to those who have been living here for many years,” he added.
